Supporting Elder Caregivers
Mastermind Group for Caregivers
You’re not alone. This intimate coaching group provides a space to help you through this journey with clarity, confidence, and honesty.
These small group sessions, will explore:
- Balancing work and caregiving responsibilities
- Setting healthy boundaries and managing family dynamics
- Taking care of yourself while caring for others
About the Group
In this small group Mastermind program, participants will get answers to these questions:
- Am I the only one feeling this way?
- What do I do with all this resentment, heartbreak, anger, and other ‘unpopular’ emotions I’m feeling at times?
- How can I balance caregiving with working and having a life/family of my own?
- How can I use my natural strengths to help me survive this experience?
- How can I put new behaviors into practice and feel less alone?
- Where can I go for the resources and support I need while caregiving?
- What is my goal as a caregiver and how can I stay on track with it?
You’ll also get a soft landing place for yourself. That’s often what we need more than anything else as caregivers. This group is about giving and receiving support, ideas, and problem solving help with a group of peers and your coach.

Why This Group?
If someone had asked Ellen publicly in 2015 if she would be a caregiver for her mom, she would have chuckled uncomfortably, squirmed a bit, and hesitantly said, ‘I mean, I guess so, if that was the only option.’
If they’d asked her privately, her answer would have been an emphatic ‘no.’
There is a very strong set of expectations communicated to caregivers by society. They include the expectation that caregivers be martyrs, patient, kind, and selfless. They also include an unspoken yet equally strong expectation that caregivers not: complain, feel resentful, get angry with the person they’re caring for, or be outspoken about any of that.
Time to let that all go and be humans.
What to Expect
Mastermind sessions will:
- Last 90 minutes each
- Be held every two weeks via Zoom
- Run for three months for this pilot
- Have up to 10 people per group
The format will include roundtable check ins with everyone, “Support Spotlight” opportunities on a rotating basis, and facilitated feedback and coaching.
This is a confidential space for everyone to share honestly and openly about their own experiences. What’s shared here stays here. The group will set ground rules together in the first session.
Each participant gets one 30-minute individual coaching session with Ellen to be used during the course of the program.
Participants in this pilot will get first dibs on spots in the full program.
Personal Insights
In order to truly understand your caretaking and family dynamics, you’ll receive an AcuMax Index® assessment and a personal 1-1 debriefing session with Ellen. This valuable tool provides insights into:
- Your hard-wired communication style
- How you accept and navigate change, pressure, and stress
- How you accept new ideas (or don’t)
- Your tendencies for navigating conflict
- Your trust gaps and how to manage them
Understanding yourself is only part of the equation. Putting those insights into practice as you navigate caregiving can position you to make small changes that produce significant impact.
Cost: $250 per participant, per month = $750 per participant for 3 months but for this pilot program, the cost is just $250 TOTAL.
Plus, it’s FULLY REFUNDABLE if you do not feel you have gotten value at the end. The only other thing you’ll be asked for is for honest, consistent feedback about your experience.
Meet Ellen
As a group and executive coach for over twenty years, Ellen has guided teams and individuals to better understand themselves and each other. Her latest book, You’re Not Doing It Right: Loving My Mother Through An Unpredictable Caregiving Journey, tells the story of caring for her mother during her battle with Lewy body dementia (LBD).
This book honestly explores the realities of caregiving and navigating these emotionally complex relationships. Like most caregivers, Ellen experienced many moments of losing patience, resentment at being in the position of caregiver, and feeling inadequate. She shares her story to help other families and individuals know they’re not alone in their caregiving struggles.
