Expecting the Unexpected

Can we really do that? Is it a myth? I think in life there are MANY, many times when things don’t go how we expect them to go. Sometimes, it’s because of a screw up. Sometimes, it’s because of a dropped ball. And sometimes, someone gets sick and things just aren’t meant to be.

This was a really hard week for us. We’ve been working so hard to get ready to complete our certification with Texas trainer, Tim Manson of Innovative Horizons. He was due to arrive on Wednesday around midnight. On Tuesday around 7 pm, he sent a message saying he was in the ER with his wife who was experiencing intense pain, and that she might need surgery. By the next day, just before noon, he confirmed what we had been bracing ourselves to hear.

He wasn’t going to be able to come. She was going in for surgery.

After planning and throwing a small pity party and a large tantrum, I pulled myself together and started to figure out how to respond. Because that’s what it’s about, right? Not what happens to you, but how you respond. I took care of notifying everyone, canceling the port-a-potty and food orders, and started trying to see the silver lining.

And there are a few. While we don’t have another 10-day window to do the full certification course this year, we do have smaller windows to do Tim’s 3-day training. It will be enough to get us started, and keep the momentum going. He has offered to make it a 4-day training for us at no extra charge, and has expressed how committed he is to supporting our success. And the outpouring of support and willingness to participate when we are able to reschedule has been very encouraging.
So today, the day after the massive disappointment of having to cancel the workshops, I feel hopeful. Optimistic. Excited for the condensed version of the training. And really loved. Thanks, peeps.
